Helen J. O’Donnell – Obituary

Grafton – Helen J. O’Donnell, 77, passed away on January 30, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

She was the daughter of David and Sarah “Sally” Porter, and devoted wife of David J. O’Donnell. 

Helen grew up in Catskill, NY. After graduating high school, she entered the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing and began 45-year nursing career with Albany Medical Center. She was a truly devoted and hard working registered nurse. Her compassion and dedication was evident in the way she cared for her patients. 

She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was very interested in her family’s history. 

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She was fond of crafts, travel and camping. She was a dedicated member of All Saints Church in Hoosick, NY.

In addition to her devoted husband, Helen is survived by her children Theresa Cooke, Michael Woods, David O’Donnell, Kelly Menia and Colleen (Bob) Bashaw, 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, her brother Don (Lois) Porter and her beloved dog Dixie.

In addition to her parents Helen is predeceased by her great-granddaughter Hannah. 

A celebration of life will take place on May 15, with more information to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Helen’s name to the Grafton Rescue Squad, PO Box 2, Grafton, NY 12082 or All Saints Church, PO Box 211, Hoosick, NY 12089.
