Lorene R. Tanner

May 2, 2019 By steve bradley

Berlin – Lorene Ranly Tanner, 94, of Berlin, peacefully passed away on April 25, 2019 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. In just 23 days, she would have been 95 years old. She was blessed with a good life all of those years.

Born in El Campo, Texas on May 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Barbara Witcher Ranly. She met her husband, Nelson Tanner, Sr., while she was employed as a telephone operator and he was stationed in Texas while serving in the US Army. Following their marriage in Texas, the couple moved to Pennsylvania and later to Center Berlin, NY, where they lived and raised their family.

Lorene was an active church member and served as a Sunday school teacher for several years. She joined the Berlin Rescue Squad when it was first organized and remained a member of the squad and ladies auxiliary for many, many years. In her younger years, Lorene enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery, ceramics, gardening, and mowing her lawn. She took great enjoyment in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was employed by the Berlin Central School, working in the kitchen there until her retirement in 1986. Throughout the years, Lorene and her husband drove to Texas about every other year to keep in touch with her family there. They also enjoyed traveling to many other destinations as well.

Lorene’s family would like to thank the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls for the wonderful and compassionate care she received during her stay. They will forever be grateful. Lorene had a strong faith in God and is at peace now. She will most certainly be missed by her family and friends.

Lorene is survived by her children, Nelson (late Judy) Tanner, Jr. and Rebecca (Frank) Giumarra, her grandchildren; Paul, Carrie, Glenn, Timothy, and Joseph, and her great-grandchildren; Daniel, Spencer, Sadie, Levi, and Francis. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Nelson D. Tanner, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage until his passing on March 18, 2003, two grandchildren, Catherine and Christopher, and her siblings; Mathilda, Herman, Leona, Flourance, Albert, and Katherine.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 29, 2019  at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, Stephentown. Interment followed the service at Cemetery of the Evergreens, New Lebanon. Those who wish to remember Lorene in a special way may consider a donation to the Berlin Rescue Squad, PO Box 269, Berlin, NY 12022. Condolence book at parkerbrosmemorial.com.
