Houghtling Wins 107th District Democratic Primary

September 21, 2018 By eastwickpress

The Eastwick Press To Sponsor A Debate Between Ashby And Houghtling

By Doug La Rocque

The primary election contest between New Lebanon Town Clerk Tistrya Houghtling and Cambridge Environmental Attorney Don Boyajian, for the Democratic line in the 107th District NYS Assembly race, was won by Ms. Houghtling on Thursday, September 13, with 54.44 percent of the ballots cast.  She will now face Republican Assemblyman Jake Ashby on Election Day, November 6.

Following her victory, Ms. Houghtling told The Eastwick Press, “I am thrilled at the turnout and support in the Primary Election. Now all the energy that was demonstrated last week will be focused on November. That energy and enthusiasm is critical because now is the time we can elect an Assembly member who will be in a position to solve the issues our district has been struggling with for 20 years. We’re going to go to every village and town and ask voters to give me a chance to be their voice. I want to be that voice so we can help families with a loved one battling an opioid addiction. I want to be that voice so we can bring funding to our communities to repair crumbling infrastructure and so we can find ways for our seniors to age gracefully in their homes. I want to be that voice so we can bring broadband and economic development to every community.”

Assemblyman Ashby also spoke to The Eastwick Press, saying “I commend my opponent on a well-earned victory in the primary. I look forward to continuing a rigorous campaign-focusing on a record of demonstrated service.”

Mr. Ashby defeated Democrat Cindy Doran of Troy in a special election April 24 to fill the seat that was vacated when former Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin became Rensselaer County Executive on January 1.

Both candidates have agreed to a debate on October 17 at the Brunswick Community Center at 6 pm.  Full details on the debate will be released next week.
