‘Twas A Great Day For The Wearing Of The Green

March 24, 2018 By eastwickpress

Hundreds of people of all ages lined the streets of downtown Hoosick Falls to enjoy the 27th Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday. There was a chill to the air, the temperature at the noontime start of the parade hovered around 30 degrees, but most didn’t seem to mind. Everyone bundled and layered, and, topped off in green said, “Let’s have some fun.”

The 45 minute parade had something for everyone. There were floats, bands, cool cars and local businesses. Candy was flying through the air and the kids were giddy getting it. No one seemed to mind the cool day. It was actually downright balmy compared to last year when the wind chill was below zero.

After the parade, people headed to Wood Park to have a beer and a corned beef sandwich while visiting their friends and neighbors. The Eagles, Polish Hall offered a live bands and corned beef sandwiches, while the Sandbar patrons filled the bar and outside volleyball areas with people enjoying the day. There was dancing at Byte, who stepped up with space because the Immaculate Church basement was unusable due to flooding.

Co-organizer and lover of all things Irish, Marie O’Neil, whose birthday is St. Paddy’s Day, was pleased. “No one seemed to mind the temperature, the streets were full. A couple bands had to cancel due to the cold, but overall we were very happy with the day.”

Kevin McClenithan won the $600 50/50 raffle. Barb Lancour won the Wine Basket, Colleen Audette won the lottery tickets, Denise Hoag won the Guinness Basket, Terri Burdock won the Irish sweater, Denise McMahon won the Endless Spring and Mary Bradley won the Irish Basket.
