HF Loses Tough One To Lake George, 61-49

March 8, 2018 By eastwickpress

By Steve Bradley

In this sectional Class C championship final, the #2 seeded Hoosick Falls Panthers fought an uphill battle throughout this entire game. After falling behind in the first quarter by six points and trailing in the entire first half, Hoosick Falls tied the game on their first basket of the second half.

From there it was back and forth until late in the fourth quarter. Everything seemed difficult on the Panther offensive end while everything appeared to come easily for #1 seed Lake George. The Panthers would erase a Lake George 44-38 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

At the four minute mark of the fourth quarter, Hoosick Falls had a 47-45 lead only to have Lake George tie the game at 47 all then gradually pull away. In the waning minutes of the game the Panthers played their poorest of the game and Lake George was able to extend the lead to the largest of the afternoon for the final score. Jon Kempf had 19 points while Evan McCart added 10. Kempf and Guy Milliman were named to the All Tournament team, along with two Lake George players and one Maple Hill player. Caleb Scrime, the player who put Lake George back in the lead several times with Panther fan deflating three-pointers, was named the tournament MVP.
