Stephentown
Elmer M. Stuart, Jr., 86, of Stephentown, passed away February 18, 2018, at the Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Ilion, NY on February 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Elmer, Sr. and Helen (Ellis) Stuart.
At age 3 he moved to Stephentown to live on his grandparents’ farm (Charles and Lula [Carpenter] Ellis), where he lived until his passing. Upon graduating from New Lebanon Central School in 1952, he took over the farm until founding Stuart’s Garage, the New Scrub Board Laundromat & Car Wash and Woodside Homes, the latter of which he ran until his dying day.
Elmer was a founding member of the United Sabbathkeepers Church and would tell everyone that he made no decisions until he prayed and talked to the Lord.
Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Brownell Stuart, whom he married on January 25, 1958. He is survived by his daughter Carole (Walt) Stuart, his son Alan Stuart, his grandchildren; Sara Wilson, Rebecca (Scott) Todd, Matthew (Christina) Wilson, Erin Hogan, and Tim Hogan, and his great-grandchildren; Mackenzie and Josephine.
A graveside service will be held on May 26, 2018 at 1 pm at the Cemetery of the Evergreens, New Lebanon, NY.
