Lillian Wolcott

Lillian G. Wolcott, 94, formerly of New Lebanon, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush. Born in Oregon, NY on August 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Tilden and Minnie Gilbert Crookston and beloved wife of the late LeRoy A. Wolcott who died in 2015.

Following her marriage, she moved with her husband LeRoy to West Lebanon where she raised her family. She grew gladiolas on a farm for local floral distributors for 15 years. She operated the Lebanon Valley Variety Store, Motel & Gas Station with her husband for 10 years. She later worked as a cashier at Lebanon Valley Supermarket where she knew everyone by name and also worked at Darrow School as a cleaner.

She moved to Stephentown after her retirement and was a member of the Church of the Crossroads and the Lebanon Springs Baptist Church. She had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, collected postcards and enjoyed scrapbooking with news of the valley.

She is the beloved mother of Rev. Alan G. (Irene) Wolcott of Lenox, MA and Linda (James) Cummings of Stephentown; grandmother of Erin Nelson, Christopher Wolcott, Kristan Simpson, Benjamin Cummings and Victoria Reed; great-grandmother of Rebecca and Lance Nelson, Josephine, Joselyn, Jesse James and Janessa Cummings, Jacob Simpson and Kira Reed. She was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters and is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was Thursday at 11 am at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY43, Stephentown with Rev. Trygve Tomlinson officiating. Friends called prior to the service on Thursday from 10-11 am. Her ashes will be interred in Stephentown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad, PO Box 208, Stephentown, NY 12168.
