Imogene Dora Hanger passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband Lee Albert Hanger and four of their 10 children; Pamela Sue, Ronald Eugene, Keith Wayne and Patricia Marie. And also her siblings; Mack, Alfred and Audrey.
She is survived by her siblings Kathleen, JoAnn, Annie, Danny, Johnny, David, and Sharon. Also her surviving children; Stephen (Aisha) Hanger, Cynthia Hanger, Marsha (Ernie) Ceniceros, Eddie (Haijuan) Hanger, Richard (Rosa) Hanger, and Roger Hanger. She also has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Imogene was born in 1931 to James Charles and Dora Darlene (Dixon) Smith and raised in Cape Girardeau, MO. In her early years, she loved to earn money by delivering newspapers on her bicycle. She was married at 18 and worked as a molding machine operator between raising her children in Indiana.
In the late 60s they moved their family to California. After retirement and separation from her husband, she traveled and spent as much time with her children and grandchildren as she could. She eventually got her own place in Pittsfield, MA until she had her stroke in 2013. She then moved in with her daughter Cynthia in Berlin, NY until she required constant care.
Imogene lived her last year as a resident of Crescent Manor Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT where the staff grew to love her.
Services are postponed until the family’s travel arrangements can be made.
