August 17, 2017 By eastwickpress

Monday, February 15, 1841: This afternoon I took the sleigh and carried my wife and cousin Verona Holcomb to brother Simeon Wylie’s. I left them on a visit and returned home and this evening I took my sleigh and all my children to singing school, I called to brother Simeon’s and carried my wife and cousin Verona Holcomb to singing school. The school was to Benj. Goodrich’s.

Monday, Feb. 22: Today I took my cutter and carried Mr. Winchester one bushel of corn and gave to him for he is in need. He lies sick and a large family to support. He lives in Nicholas Gardner’s house. I returned from Mr. Winchester’s and left his grist to Adams Mill to be ground. This evening my two oldest daughters went to Berlin upper village to singing school with other young people.

Wednesday: Today I took my cutter and carried my wife to the west part of Lebanon on a visit in company with brother Simeon Wylie and wife. We went to Hiram Bigelow’s and took dinner. This afternoon I and my wife visited to old Paul Roberts. We found the old man in a very feeble state of health. We returned home by daydown and we found brother Samuel Beers and wife and his son Nathan and wife and brother Sylvester’s wife all to our house and stayed with us.

Saturday: This evening I took the cutter and carried brother Sylvester’s wife home and then I rode up to Abner Bull’s and fetched my daughter home from singing school and Jane Holcomb, the daughter of cousin Samuel Holcomb. On this evening what is called the brass band from Pittsfield played to Hiram W. Brown’s in the Select School House and Geo P. went and paid 12 cts for admittance.

Wednesday: Today I chopped and drew timber from my swamp. Tonight I am unwell. Thursday: I am unwell and took phisic and my wife is unwell and today I sent Geo P. to N. Nichols after phisic for my wife and Charlotte is unwell. I sent John F. to Hiram Newton’s after
Gool thread and to Joshua B. Maxon’s after honey for her swollen throat.

Friday: I continue unwell but towards night I walked up to old Zach Chapman’s and he promised me he would pay the school bill of one of his grand daughters of last summer’s schooling.
