The life of Doree Cox was celebrated and honored by friends and family at the Poestenkill Forest this month. On Sunday, August 6, over 30 people came to the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance’s Poestenkill Community Forest to celebrate the life of Doree Cox (1927-2012) of Berlin. Doree was a long time member of The Rensselaer Land Trust and founding member of the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, who grew blueberries, led hikes, and lived a life full of adventure and camaraderie with her family and many beloved friends.
The event featured stories by Doree’s friends and dedication of a bench in her honor. The bench was carried via tractor to its spot along “Doree’s Trail” in the Community Forest, and her family and friends hiked in to help place the bench.
A plaque on the bench reads:
In memory of Doree Cox, founding member of Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, who loved the people, forests, old roads and rocks of the plateau.
