Second Annual “Rock The Block” Hoosick Community Celebration

July 14, 2017 By eastwickpress

A Feast, Friends and Neighbors, And A Band Concert

submitted by Deborah Alter

There are many great things about Hoosick, but at the core of it all is our sense of community.[Private] We have tremendous strength, spirit, and capacity for caring, and the second annual “Rock the Block” party on Wednesday, August 2 is a celebration of that undeniable “Hoosick heart.”

Main Street in Hoosick Falls, near the Wood Memorial Park, will be closed to traffic. Bring friends and family to the event; make new friends, too. With free chicken BBQ and hot dogs, cole slaw, baked potatoes, and a roll, delicious potluck dishes, balloons, garden flowers, and music by the Community Band and special guest singers, Main Street and Wood Park will be transformed into an enchanting, fun, and food-filled summertime evening for sharing with family, friends, and neighbors.

The event kicks off with chalk drawing on Eberle Way (chalk will be provided) beginning at 4 pm for kids and adults. Serious artists are encouraged to join in. The supper begins at 6 pm. The Wednesday night concert by the Community Band starts at 7:30 in the Bandstand in Wood Park. Main Street will close promptly at 6 pm and people can help themselves to the feast set out on tables decorated with flowers and balloons that will be lined up right down the middle of Main Street.

Along with the chicken BBQ (while supply lasts) there will be coleslaw and delicious potluck dishes brought by fellow Hoosickians. Please bring a favorite dish to share (in a disposable container, if possible), and the recipe (if you are willing to divulge your culinary secrets). Bring your own blankets or chairs and enjoy the picnic in the park. There will be a table and some chairs available to make the event more comfortable for folks who need it.

The idea is to have a diverse, delectable, and plentiful potluck for all, so bring your specialty. Most needed are a variety of side dishes, especially salads. Hoosick-themed, uniquely decorated “Hoosick Cakes” will be displayed and ready for dessert.

This is a rain-or-shine event; it all moves to the Skating Rink (including the Band Concert) if the skies open up. Everybody is welcome for an evening of summertime fun and sharing with neighbors and friends. For more information, email ihearthoosick@gmail.com.
