Rensselaer County Legislature Honors Grafton’s Goyer Family For Its Many Years Of Fire Service To The Town

By Doug La Rocque
Just prior to its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 11, the County lawmakers took time to honor four members of the Goyer family for a combined 185 years of service with the Grafton Fire Department.
[Private]Harold is the patriarch of the family, and the father to current Chief Jim Goyer.  He is nearing 70 years of service to his community.  He first joined the Department in 1948 at the age of 16.  Chief Goyer has been a member of the department for 49 years, and Chief for more than 30.  His brother Richard, not pictured here, has more than 45 years as a member, and Jim’s son Jay, is working on his 24th year.  As seems to be family tradition, Jim, Richard and Jay also joined at 16 years of age.

The resolution, sponsored by District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Jeff Wysocki, among others, said the family is “truly dedicated to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of their community and have provided outstanding service to those who have been in dire need, thus contributing to the welfare of the Town of Grafton and Rensselaer County.” [/Private]
