Flag Day is a day of national observance for the symbol of our country – the American Flag.[private]
In its local tradition, the Village of Hoosick Falls will celebrate Flag Day at the American Legion Post 40 on Main Street on Wednesday, June 14, beginning at 6:30 pm.
Local officials will begin with a few words, then Terri Burdick will lead the traditional Elks Flag Day Program that will take us through the history of the Stars and Stripes. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will fly each rendition of the American Flag as it is being described, with patriotic music being intertwined by the Hoosick Falls Community Band. This segment of the program will conclude with a flag raising and 3 volley salute by the Post 40 Honor Guard, led by Commander Ike Powers.
The evening will conclude with Joyce and Kevin Whalen and Voice of a Vet presenting the Honorable Richard P. Whalen Memorial Scholarship to deserving students. There will also be a display for the Adopt a Serviceman program, including a list of servicemen who have yet to be adopted. For more information on Voice of a Vet programs, contact Gail Smith at 686-9888.
We hope you will take time to come out to learn how our American Flag has evolved through the years and to celebrate its very existence. [/private]
