June 8, 2017 By eastwickpress

Thursday, September 10, 1840: Today I took my two horse pleasure wagon and carried my two daughters to Pittsfield to brother Jay Wylie’s and took dinner. [private]Then Cornelia Tracy rode with us to the summit on the railroad to Washington. We went to see them work blasting the rocks to make the railroad.

Friday: Today we returned from Pittsfield and I found Alfred Clark to my house. He came yesterday and is making shoes. Wednesday, September 16: We divided my flock of sheep. I drove 18 sheep on to my Rodgers farm for sale. I put my buck with Platt Wylie’s and I put 18 yews on to my hill for to keep. Tonight I took my single wagon and my wife rode with me. We went to Elder Grant’s and fetched his daughter home with us to spin for us, and I walked up to Calvin P. Sackett’s to see if his daughter had concluded to go on a journey on west with my daughter.

Friday: Today Mr. Alfred Clark finished shoemaking for us. He made six pairs at 56 cts per pair. I paid him 21 pounds of pork at ten cts per and one bushel of corn at 75 cts per bushel and the remainder in cash 90 cts.

Thursday, Sept 24: Today I took my two horse team and carried my two sons and Fleetus Pierce to General training to East Nassau to Morgan Harris and today Colonel Sheldon and Capt Cross were put under an arrest. I paid about 25 cts for cake and oysters and clams. We went and came through Lebanon.

Monday Sept 28: Today I took my two horse team and carried my daughter Charlotte and Hannah Sackett to Troy and got them on board of a line boat at West Troy for the west. I paid their passage two dollars each and boarded, the boat left West Troy at four o’clock this afternoon. Charlotte carried thirty four dollars to sister Lucretia Wylie to be endorsed on a note she holds against me and Charlotte carried thirty dollars for to pay her expenses. My wife and Mrs. Lucy Ryan went with me to Troy and Mrs Ryan paid me fifty cts for carrying her.

Thursday Oct 8: I gathered apples and drew in potatoes and my two sons finished digging potatoes today. This afternoon Mr. Bush called and took tea on his way to the fair, and this evening cousin Orra Holcomb and sister Jane and Mr. Daniels and his sister on their way from the fair called and took tea. [/private]
