Eastwick Press May Continue

June 22, 2017 By eastwickpress

Since I announced publicly my plans to cease publication, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support for the paper and many have asked if there is anything that can be done to save it. [Private]My response has been that I don’t want to continue as leader, so a new leader would first have to be found who is willing to take over the paper, and we could then all rally round that person.

This week my trusty Berlin and Grafton reporter Doug La Rocque has proposed to take over the paper, but he is looking for additional partners and investors to make sure that he has enough resources to get the paper to profitability. If you are interested in helping to re-launch the paper and put it on a long-term sustainable basis, consider Doug’s request below.

Many thanks to everyone who has sent messages of praise and sympathy – it turns out I had many more friends than I knew! I have tried to respond to each but there were too many to reply to all. Please know that I have been very touched by the many messages I have received.

Although things remain uncertain as of this writing, I am pretty certain the Eastwick Press will continue in some form. If Doug’s project does not come to fruition, I think we will be reorganizing and revitalizing the digital side of the paper and continuing to provide news at eastwickpress.com.

Alex Brooks

Editor & Publisher, Eastwick Press

Would You Like To Help The Eastwick Press Continue?

For two decades or more the good people of Eastern Rensselaer County have relied on the Eastwick Press for news about their communities. With this edition Alex Brooks will complete his run as owner and editor, but this does not necessarily mean the paper will have to cease publication. I and a potential partner are willing to purchase the paper and continue its publication. We are, however, still in need of more investors to become limited partners to help bring this to fruition. The minimum amount needed to become an investor is $500. Call or e-mail, and I will outline my plans, and if you choose to participate you will receive full details in writing about how the money will be used, the business plan, and the legal documents involved.
Alex has offered the paper at a very reasonable price, and it does have a lot of potential for growth in its circulation and revenue. While all of us involved recognize this for what it is, a business opportunity, our primary motivation is to keep the Eastwick Press going. If you would like to help, please contact me at the e-mail address or phone number listed below.
Thank you, and my many thanks to Alex Brooks for all he has done for our area.
