Wins And Losses For The Berlin Baseball And Softball Teams

May 4, 2017 By eastwickpress

Both the Mountaineer’s squads started off the past weeks’ worth of games with lopsided wins over the Bishop Maginn Griffins.  [private]The girls pounded the Albany based school 27 – 0 behind the shutdown pitching of 7th grader Bailey Catlin, who also stroked a home run in the game.  Junior catcher Haley Maxon drove one out of the park as well, joining Alyssa Beirwirth and Miranda Walters with a multi-hit game.

Mother Nature again was a winner during the week, with several games rained out.  On Monday, the Germantown Clippers visited Berlin, and came away with a pair of wins, 17 to 5 in the first game, and 19-1 in the second.  Bailey Catlin had 3 hits on the night, Haley Maxon collected two more and drove in two runs.

At the same time the girls were pounding the Griffins, the Berlin Boys were busy doing the same.

Junior Tyler Kellar pitched the complete game shutout, allowing only two hits on the way to the 26-0 victory.  Berlin’s pitching prospect also struck out ten Bishop Maginn batters.  The Mountaineer’s Senior Trio of Garrett Fiske, Chris Houle and Michael Hicks went a combined 10 for 12 at the plate, driving in seven runs and scoring 12 times.  Mr. Kellar was no slouch in the batter’s box either, going 4 for 5, with 3 RBI’s and two runs scored.  Coach Josh Weaver tells The Eastwick Press “it was a great team win today and I could not be more proud of these guys.  Kellar was outstanding today and really is becoming a great ball player during his second year.  From our hitting to our defense, we were very solid as a team today.”  The Boy’s also hosted the first place Germantown Clippers in a double header Monday, dropping both games.

With rain playing havoc with the schedule once again this spring, both squads have a jammed pack slate of games in the next week, as the season starts to wind down.  [/private]
