Senior Kelly Pine was named Most Valuable Player of the Wasaren League for the 2016-17 season. Pine led the Panthers to the 2017 sectional semifinals and has been an intregal part of the HFCS girls basketball team since she was an eighth grader.
[private]Other teammates receiving honors in the league were senior Lizza Ryan as a first team All-Star. Junior Eliza Whitman and freshman Logan Thayne were selected as honorable mentions.
Other players making the first team were Hannah Kreiger (Sr.) and Emily Erickson (So.) of Tamarac, Cami Hren (Sr.) of Hoosic Valley and Olivia Barnes (Sr.) of Greenwich. Second team players were Renna Poulin (So.) of Tamarac, Danika Svendsen (Sr.) of Stillwater, Julia Amedeo (Sr.) and Sammy Pasinella (Sr.) of Mechanicville and Becky Keasbey (Jr.) of Hoosic Valley.
In addition to Whitman and Thayne of HFCS, honorable mention players were Helen Mooney and Sophie Phillips of Cambridge, Sabrina Whitehouse of Greenwich, Alex Rifenburg, Alicia Clum and Ashley Madigan of Hoosic Valley, Emma VanDeCar and Kristen Maher of Saratoga Catholic and Tamarac’s Kayla Doody.

The Glens Falls Civic Center is the host this year of the 2107 NYS Tournament of Champions, for the first time since the tournament was moved to the Times Union Center in 2012. Boys and girls Class AA, A and B will compete the days of Friday, March 24 through Sunday, March 26. Semifinals will be held Friday and Saturday. Beginning Saturday evening, finals will be for Class B boys at 5 pm, girls Class AA at 7 pm and Class AA boys at 9 pm. Finals on Sunday, March 26, will see the Class A girls at noon, Class B girls at 2 pm and Class A boys at 4 pm. [/private]
