Berlin CSD Hosting Academic Tournament To Help Students Participate In National Competition

On Friday, March 31, 2017, teachers and staff at Berlin High School will host an academic tournament called “MasterMinds: Teacher Edition” to support the BHS Varsity MasterMinds team in their quest to participate in the National Academic Quiz Tournament’s Small Schools National Championship in Chicago.

[private]“MasterMinds: Teacher Edition” will begin at 6:30 pm on Friday, March 31 in the Berlin Middle/High School auditorium at 17400 Route 22 in Cherry Plain. Admission to the event is free! Participating teams will pay a fee to compete in order to help offset the cost of hotel accommodations for students. There will also be a donation box for attendees who wish to donate additional funds.

The special quiz bowl will feature teams of Berlin teachers and administrators, with the possibility of a Berlin CSD Board of Education team. It will be moderated by Alex Flowers, a senior at Berlin High School and member of the Varsity MasterMinds team who hopes to compete in NAQT’s Small Schools National Championship at the end of April.

After an exceptional season, the BHS Varsity MasterMinds team earned a chance to compete in the NAQT’s Small Schools National Championship, which is invitation-only and consists of the 96 best Quiz Bowl teams from small public high schools with fewer than 500 students. The NAQT’s Small Schools National Championship is April 28-30, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. [/private]
