Hoosick Falls field hockey standout Liz Ryan gave herself a special 18th birthday present on Wednesday, February 1, when she signed a National Letter of Intent to play field hockey for the Division I program at the University at Albany.[private] Ryan, the most prolific scorer in HFCS field goal history, has been in the sights of UA head coach Phil Sykes for a couple years.

Ryan is headed to a team that went 14-6 overall and 7-1 in the America East conference in the 2016 season. The team was nationally ranked in the top twenty during the 2016 season.
Ryan, a five year player, places first in career goals and assists in a very successful HFCS field hockey program. Ryan and her HFCS head coach Denise Campbell shared a proud moment after Ryan signed. Ryan credited Campbell with convincing her to play field hockey instead of soccer. “I wouldn’t have played (field hockey) if it wasn’t for her,” Ryan said.
Ryan is the daughter of Mike and Pat Ryan of Hoosick Falls.Ryan’s sister Madeline, a sophomore at Ithaca College, broke into the starting lineup on the Ithaca field hockey team this year.[/private]
