In last week’s paper, The Eastwick Press noted two wrestlers, Matthew LaPorte and Jake Pine, qualified for state competition. [private]Another HFCS wrestler, sophomore Gabe Fisher, also qualified by finishing as runner-up in the 106 pound class. Fisher was defeated by decision to Trent Svingala of Maple Hill, 4-0.
LaPorte, Pine and Fisher now move on to the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Associations Wrestling Championship at the Times Union Center in downtown Albany.
The event will be held Friday and Saturday, February 24-25, beginning at 9:30 am Friday. There are two sessions on Saturday, with qualifying events beginning at 10 am and the championships beginning in the second session which starts at 6:30 pm. [/private]
