On January 21, Sensei Bob Fish of Stephentown Self Defense Systems promoted seven people to various degrees of black belt.[private] Fish said, “Bruce Lee once said ‘There are no limits, there are only plateaus and you must not stay there; you must go beyond them through hard work, commitment, discipline and perseverance.’ That is exactly what these students have done.
Though they have learned much, their journey is not complete. It is a new beginning at another level with more challenges to face and obstacles to overcome. As martial artists we seek physical perfection but the greater goal is to seek perfection of character. My hope is that they continue to strive to meet those goals so they may make a difference in every life that they touch. Let us all continue to grow in grace and knowledge serving God and serving man.”
John Izzo’s Okinawan Karate Association, Green Island Academy of Martial Arts, Stephentown Self Defense Systems and Bassallo’s School of Martial Arts recognize the accomplishments of the following people.

Christine Beattie 2nd Degree Black Belt

Michael King 2nd Degree Black Belt
