Hoosick Falls – Thomas A. Coffinger Sr., 79, a resident of County Rd. 113, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
[private]Born August 8, 1937 in Bacon Hill, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eleanor Boyce Coffinger Sr.
Mr. Coffinger was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1954-1959 and was a member of the American Legion Liberty Post # 515 in Greenwich. He had been the owner of TJ Electric and had serviced many farms in the local area. He retired from Myers Education Center (BOCES) in Saratoga Springs where he had worked for 20 years. He was a member of the Bacon Hill Reformed Church.
Tom loved going to his barn to putter where he in truth propped his feet up on the woodstove (summer and winter) and took a nap.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Ernest J. Coffinger Jr. and one sister, Carol Huber.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jo Ann Coffinger of Greenwich; two daughters, Eleanor Coffinger Danforth of Hoosick Falls and Elizabeth Kay (Kellogg Patton) Humphreys II of Northumberland; one son, Thomas A. (Cathy) Coffinger Jr. of Stillwater; two brothers, Richard (Ginny) Coffinger of Gansevoort and John Coffinger of Greenwich; two sisters, Sandra (Paul)Vaughn of Victory Mills and Janice (Jack) Garrison of W. Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Ethan Danforth, Katherine Danforth, Bethany Lyn Humphreys (fiancé James), Kellogg Patton Humphreys III, Felicia Coffinger and Thomas Coffinger III; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Buckwheat.
A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Monday, December 12, at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 Route 32N, Schuylerville, with Rev. Janet Vincent officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville
Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 3 pm at the church prior to the service.
Memorials can be made in his memory to the Bacon Hill Reformed Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.
