Hoosick Falls Elementary School Awarded Grant For Science Learning Program

December 1, 2016 By eastwickpress

Students in the Hoosick Falls Elementary School will soon benefit from an inquiry-based learning curriculum thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.[private]

As educational needs and requirements have shifted toward a focus on ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics, the amount of time focused on other content areas such as Science has decreased.

This grant will help to reverse that trend as Hoosick Falls Elementary School works to build a foundation for inquiry-based learning that can lead to an increased interest in careers focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

High School Science Teacher Deb Mabey applied for the Bender Scientific Grant, “We thought this was something that would greatly benefit our Elementary School students by building a strong base of scientific knowledge. When they enter High School, we can continue to build on what they learned in Elementary School.”

“The lessons are all inquiry-based, so this helps them to actually practice science, but also develop the critical thinking skills needed for the future. We are giving them the tools they need to succeed beyond high school in a rapidly changing job market.”

Hoosick Falls Central School District is thankful that the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region has made this grant available. Their generosity will help increase the opportunities for learning for Hoosick Falls Elementary School students.[/private]
