Tuesday May 28, 1839: Today I took my single wagon and my wife with me and we went to the west part of Lebanon to Paul Roberts. [private]There we took tea and I paid at his store 25 cts for three pounds of nails, and we fetched Fanna Roberts home with us to work for us as is before agreed for one dol per week. On the way going I called to a number of houses taking the valuation of property.
Wednesday: I took the valuation of a few of my neighbors’ property.
Thursday: This morning Rowland Danford called and paid me my damage for doing my wagon wrong the smith work which was two dollars and 63 cts and we passed receits in full and this morning I carried Angeline to her school and I called to Squ L. Sheldon’s to notify him to stop my suit with said Danford, and this forenoon I continued taking the valuation of property.
Friday, May 31: I plowed and planted potatoes on my Rodgers farm near the barn. My son John F. was all the help I had for my son Geo P. had cut his leg yesterday and is quite lame.
Saturday, June 8: Today Mr. Elijah Clark came and painted my wagon, and he charged 75 cts and I agreed to pay him three pecks of corn delivered to Adams mill. Today I sent my son Geo P after Doctor Right for Platt Wylie, he has the quinsey in his throat.
Thursday: This morning I walked over to Solomon Goodrich’s and hired a bull of his sons and agreed if the bull stayed to answer for the season I am to pay two dollars. Today I met the other three assessors and we completed our assessment roll and I paid my bill which was one dol and twenty five cts. Tonight there was two sons-in-law of old David Barnhart stayed with us. They had secured the thief in Connecticut in jail. Today I am 48 years old.
Sunday June 16: today I took my two horse pleasure wagon and brother Twichel and wife and my wife, we went to the Shakers to meeting.
Tuesday: I took my two horse pleasure wagon and carried brother John Twichel and wife and my wife to Pittsfield to brother F. Jay Wylie’s on a visit.[/private]
