Voters in Grafton this year are being asked to choose between two well-known individuals to fill the remaining one year of a Town Council term. The seat became vacant on January 1 when Ingrid Gundrum was sworn in as Town Supervisor.[private]Vying for the position are Allison Kirschner, who was appointed to the vacancy until this special election, and Vicky Burdick, who is currently the Deputy Town Clerk. Both candidates were asked by The Eastwick Press to submit a brief statement as to why they think voters should choose them. The statements appear below. Whoever wins this year’s contest will have to run again in 2017, if they wish to hold the seat for a full four-year term.

There were the usual concerns over taxes and assessments. But overall people were happy to be part of our “small town” and the freedoms that come with it. As a life-long resident of our town I feel I can help preserve what is great about Grafton while still helping the Town to make positive changes and move forward.
I am fairly new to politics and on this journey I have realized I am not in this race for the politics, I am in it for the people. That is why I am asking for your vote for Councilperson on November 8th.
Thank You
