Ladies Beat Warrensburgh, Add Two More Wins

October 6, 2016 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

HF 3 – Granville 1 Monday, October 3 at HFCS. HF 10-0, 12-0; Granville 4-6, 5-6. Granville scored first with just under 19 minutes to go in the first half and held the lead for seven minutes.[private] This is noteworthy because the Horde leading the Panthers in field hockey is a rare event. With just under twelve minutes on the clock Ally Burdick scored to break the ice for the Panthers.

Breanna Schnakenberg added another first half goal with just over a minute showing. Liz Ryan scored the only goal of the second half when she blasted a shot in from 25 feet out that was past everyone before they knew it was on its way. Granville goalie Cheyenne Oakman had ten saves for the Horde. Panthers goaltenders Kaitlin Backes (1 goal / 0 saves) and Zoe Gress (2 saves) shared time in goal.

HF 5 – Corinth 0 Friday, September 30 at HFCS. HF 9-0, 11-0. The Ladies made the 1½ hour trip to Corinth to play the Warriors. The Panthers were rewarded with a win. Quickly taking command of the game, Megan Henry, with an assist from Liz Ryan, scored at the 29:17 mark to get the Ladies the lead. Six minutes later Eliza Whitman scored unassisted to give the Panthers a two goal lead at the half. Liz Ryan scored two unassisted goals and Eliza Whitman added another with help from Sydney Luke to bring the Panthers total to five. Corinth’s Keyleigh Mosher had 17 saves, Kaitlin Backes (1) and Zoe Gress (3) combined for four saves.

HF 1 – Warrensburgh 0 Wednesday, September 28 at HFCS. HF 8-0, 10-0. In a typical Warrensburgh versus Hoosick Falls game, scores are hard to come by and games are close. This game proved to be no different as both teams struggled to get a goal because of the excellent play of the other team. The only score of the game came when Eliza Whitman scored with just over six minutes gone in the game. Both teams had chances, both hit the posts on shots, but neither could capitalize.

This week the team travels to Taconic Hills HS on Friday, October 7, for a 4:15 start. Saturday, October 8, at 12 pm, will find the Ladies at Salem High School. Tuesday, October 11 will be a night game at Tamarac beginning at 6:30 pm.[/private]
