Fun Mahjongg Morning – Saturday, September 17 from 9:30 am to Noon. (Experienced players welcome, too!) Would you like to learn the ancient Chinese game of Mahjongg? [private]Do you enjoy card games, chess, backgammon? Then you may love mahjongg. Research has shown that this fascinating game stimulates the mind and helps keep your brain sharp! SML is hosting a Saturday morning of Mahjongg fun. All are welcome and players will be grouped by experience level – beginners are welcome. Suggested donation is $5 per player. Refreshments will be served. Please contact the Library to reserve your place. There is also open play mahjongg at SML on Thursdays from 4 to 6 pm.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month – Membership means something at Stephentown Memorial Library and just to show you how much we’d love to have you come join us, we’re offering a little extra incentive for National Library Card Signup Month. We’ve created a special limited edition mug celebrating our place as the only Stephentown on Earth and the famous sign that used to share this point of local pride with the rest of the world. If you’re one of the first 20 people (one per family per visit, please) to come down and sign up for a free library card from September 12 through 30, you’ll receive one of these mugs as our welcome gift to you. Our members know how valuable it is to have a sustainable library in a small rural community like Stephentown to provide not just print and e-books, but also movies, music, computer and Internet access, meeting space, family friendly events, museum passes, the only online grant database in this part of the state, and so much more. Check our website or stop in for more details and additional incentives.

Monthly Lego Club – Friday, September 23 at 6:30 pm. Do you have a Lego enthusiast who could spend hours and hours every day engrossed with creative building? Then this club is for you and your family! Bring your young Lego builder to the library to build and create with our large collection of bricks. Donations of Lego bricks and accessories are also welcome at the Front Desk. Come and have some fun with other Lego fans! This month’s theme is Pokemon. We will have Lego Bingo and a Lego speed building contest! We will display all the creations of our Lego builders at the library until next month’s meeting.

Information for Seniors – Beginning September 22, Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Information Services will hold office hours from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the library on the 4th Thursday of each month. Seniors can receive useful and objective information, assistance and advocacy in a variety of areas. Caregiver information services offers assistance to caregivers at their time of need, particularly creating a care plan for the new caregiver and coordinating respite services. This program is open to all seniors and caregivers.
