The Hoosick Falls Panthers (0-1) suffered a defeat at the hands of a tough Greenwich (1-0) squad Friday night in Greenwich. The Witches were New York State finalists in last year’s New York State Class C state championships.[private]
Hoosick Falls struggled to move the ball while Greenwich made big plays, including an 85 yard TD pass for a second quarter score. The Witches held a 22 – 0 lead at the half.
Any hope of the Panthers making a second half comeback were dashed twenty seconds into the third quarter when Greenwichs’ Cole Burgess took the kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to open the second half. Greenwich tacked on another score later in the third quarter to end the scoring.
The Panthers ended the game with 146 total offensive yards to Greenwichs’ 362. Quarterback Aaron Tomczak threw for 102 yards through the air for the Panthers.
Next week the Panthers will make the quick trip down Route 67 to visit the Hoosic Valley Indians. The game is Saturday, September 10, with kickoff scheduled for 1 pm. Hoosic Valley (1-0) defeated Granville (0-1) last Saturday, 43 – 12.[/private]
