Field Hockey Mows ‘Em Down

HF 3 – Greenwich 1 Monday, September 26 at Greenwich. HF 7-0, 9-0; Greenwich 6-1, 7-2. Greenwich grabbed a quick lead at the 28:49 mark when Hannah Walsh scored, putting the Panthers in the unfamiliar position of being behind. [private]It took a while but the Panthers came back to tie the game later in the half when Ally Burdick scored unassisted with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. Hoosick Falls took the lead with just under seven minutes to play in the first half when Megan Henry scored with an assist from Lillian Hickey. The Ladies scored an insurance goal halfway through the second half on an unassisted goal by Liz Ryan. Kaitlin Backes had eight saves, while Zoe Gress had two saves and surrendered one goal. Greenwich’s Olivia Barns had 15 saves. Both teams had 17 corners.

HF 4 – Columbia 0 Thursday, September 22 at Columbia. HF 6-0, 8-0. After playing to a scoreless tie at the end of the first half, the Panthers’ Megan Henry broke the ice with a goal just over five minutes into the second half. The Panthers hung on to that one goal lead for the next 18 minutes of play until they finished the game with a flurry of scores. Ally Burdick, with an assist from Henry, scored with just over six minutes to play to give the Panthers some breathing room with a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later Breanna Schnakenberg added another goal with an assist from Lillian Hickey. Now on a roll and with just over a minute left in the game, Liz Ryan added a unassisted fourth goal. Zoe Gress and Kaitlin Backes combined to record zero saves for the Panthers, while Columbia’s Suzanne Clarke was under a relentless attack with 31 saves.

HF 3 – North Warren 0 Wednesday, September 21 at HFCS. HF 6-0, 7-0; North Warren 2-5, 3-5. The Ladies scored three first half goals and cruised from there to get another win. Eliza Whitman, assisted by Ally Burdick, got the Panthers on the board at the 18:30 mark. Later in the half, Cecilia Vincent, with an assist by Sydney Luke, scored and Whitman added her second goal of the afternoon with just under a minute to play in the half. Kaitlin Bakes (1 save) and Zoe Gess (0 saves) shared time as goalkeepers. North Warren goalkeeper Sam Rogers had 14 saves. Hoosick Falls had 23 corners to North Warren’s one.[/private]
