Bigger And Better Than Ever: Walter A. Wood Tractor Show Is Back!

September 29, 2016 By eastwickpress

submitted by Kevin O’Malley

Walter A. Wood Tractor and Agriculture Show is coming this Saturday, October 1! [private]Come on over to Walter A. Wood Memorial Park in Hoosick Falls and check out all the antique and vintage tractors, horse-drawn farm equipment and implements, and contemporary machinery that will be on display from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

TractorShowwebThe Walter A. Wood Reaping and Mowing Company manufactured horse-drawn farm equipment right here in our village from 1865 to 1924, and sold machinery to farmers in Hoosick and as far away as the Middle East and Russia! The company was a big deal…world famous!

It was Wood’s company that made Hoosick Falls a boomtown in the 19th century; so big that it made us the largest village in the United States.

Come get a good, close-up look at antique tractors and antique horse drawn implements made by the Wood Company and others, as well as hit-and-miss steam engines, some of which will actually be working. Enjoy some great food, visit the craft vendors, listen to great music and let your kids partake in some fun activities.

Morning coffee and Weeb’s donuts will be served from The Iron Coffee Company’s shop in the new building on the former Dougherty’s site. The American Legion will be offering hamburgers, hotdogs and steamers.

Lewis Sugar House and the Sugar Shack will be selling everything maple, including milkshakes, ice cream, cotton candy, candy, maple cream, popcorn, and syrup.

Brown’s Brewing Company and the Brown’s Walloomsac Taproom will be on hand with a free sample of their special cheddar ale soup. They will also be selling commemorative Walter A. Wood glasses for $10, each of which comes with a coin good for a pint of your favorite Brown’s craft beer at the Taproom. A portion of these proceeds benefit the Tractor Show. Later in the afternoon, at the end of the exhibition, there will be a chicken barbeque hosted by the Hoosick Falls Police Department. Tickets for the BBQ will be on sale during the day’s event.

Be sure to catch a pony ride provided by One Trick Pony out of Pittstown, New York. Enjoy hayrides courtesy of JC Tractor of Hoosick Falls.

A free concert by one of the region’s favorite blue grass-folk bands, The Hill Hollow Band, will be at the Bandstand from 11:30 am to 3 pm. A large, genre-bending, bluegrass/folk/country/Americana band, they have been called “one of the emerging bright lights in the Capital Region’s roots music scene,” perfect for the Tractor Show.

Purchase your fall decorations, including pumpkins, gourds and hay stalks, from the Hartland Harvest Farm from White Creek, NY. Pumpkin painting for kids will take place on the Immaculate Conception Church Rectory porch with Faith Formation.

A related activity, sponsored by the Cheney Library, will be taking place on the same day. An afternoon of clues and camaraderie and loads of fun will begin at 1 pm. The adventure begins when you and your team receives a set of riddles that will lead you on a driving adventure through Hoosick and Hoosick history. Bring your camera or iPhone for photos. If you are one of the first three teams to complete your mission you will be awarded a prize! Refreshments will be served post-race. Pre-registration is encouraged. For more information about the Hoosick History Race, call 518-686-9401 or stop by the Library.

This exciting, interesting, informative, and fun event has been organized by Kevin O’Malley. Folks from Hoosick and the surrounding communities are still welcome to enter tractors, farm implements, hit and miss engines, livestock, and agricultural products.

For more information or to register, call Kevin at 518-894-5035, or email him at hoosickkid@gmail.com.[/private]
