Art School Of Columbia County Programs For Children And Teens At The New Lebanon Library

July 21, 2016 By eastwickpress

The Art School of Columbia County will present three “Art in the Library” programs at the New Lebanon Library during July and August.  These outreach programs combine art and reading, using poetry as a short, visual text form from which to begin creative explorations. These programs are free and open to the public.[private]The first program was held on Tuesday, July 19 and focused on a poem by Emily Dickinson.
The second program, “You Come Too,” is for grades 3 through 6 and will take place on Tuesday, July 26, at 1:30 pm. Students will work with a landscape-based poem by Robert Frost and create a dual-sided accordion book, featuring their walk with Robert Frost on one side and a walk of their own on the other. The program will include discussion of local farm landscapes as place-based sources of inspiration for both art and writing.
The final program. “The Road Not Taken,” will be on Tuesday, August 23, at 1:30 pm and is intended for grades 6 through 8. Students will create collage-based maps of their lives, including elements of personal narrative, writing, drawing and collage.
To register for any of these programs, please contact the New Lebanon Library at 518.794.8844. The Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22. Art in the Library programs are made possible by a grant from the Art School of Columbia County.
