A Grafton resident using a lift bucket was attempting to cut the top off a dead tree when it got away from him on Saturday May 28, crashing into power lines and causing a severe rope burn to his neck.

Authorities say Matt Weir of 2070 Route 2 was treated at a local hospital. The tree top fell onto the power lines, breaking the pole, with the weight and strain pulling down a second pole about 100 feet away. A large transformer that was on the second pole fell to the ground. Traffic was slowed through the area and power east of Gundrum’s saw mill was out for some time while National Grid replaced the poles and equipment.[/private]
