June 16, 2016 By eastwickpress

Living History Weekend At Mabee Farm Historic Site
A wealth of activities will be held at Mabee Farm Historic Site, 32 Washington Ave., Schenectady, as part of its Living History Weekend on Saturday, June 25 from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, June 26 from 10 am to 3 pm.[private]In 1776, on the brink of revolution, citizens of our area had to decide: would they stay loyal to England, or turn against their king? At the Mabee Farm Historic Site, Patriots and Loyalists alike, plus tradesmen, musicians, and textile artisans, surgeons, laundresses, brewers, bakers, and blacksmiths will gather to help you explore both sides of the story. The activities will include Loyalist, Patriot, & Civilian encampments; children’s militia drills; children’s games and colonial education; Military skirmishes; Chocolate demonstrations (Saturday only); Brewing demonstrations; Blacksmithing demonstrations; Cheesemaking demonstrations; Carpentry demonstrations; Coopering demonstrations; Laundry demonstrations; Wool & textile arts demonstrations; Colonial surgery demonstrations; Mohawk River bateaux presentation; “Henry Glen, Servant of the Army” conversation with Library/Archivist Michael Maloney; Committee of Safety meetings; and other historical exhibits and tours.
REVOLUTION! programs continue into Saturday night with traditional live music and dancing in the Dutch Barn! Admission is $5 for adults, free for children and students. For more information, please visit facebook.com/mabeefarm or contact Educator Jenna Peterson Riley at 518-887-5073, or by email at educator@schenectadyhistorical.org. The Mabee Farm Historic Site is wheelchair accessible, with off-street parking in front of the George E. Franchere Education Center.
Prior to the weekend program, Mohawk River bateaux will be making their annual row on the Hudson and Mohawk rivers! The Big Row is an annual rowing trip by 18th century living history interpreters done with replica boats and gear.  By taking multi-day trips, participants immerse themselves in understanding of old techniques. The dates of the row  this year are June 21 to June 24. The boats will depart from Rogers Island, NY and arrive at Mabee Farm in time for the REVOLUTION! Living History Weekend.[/private]
