Flying Deer Family Day Offers
Fun and Festivities for All Ages
This year, Flying Deer Nature Center marks two decades of providing nature education to children, teens and adults in Columbia and Berkshire Counties. Since 1996, more than 2,500 children and adults have participated in the center’s nature education programs, wilderness adventures, coming-of-age experiences, and community activities.
[private]Flying Deer Family Day, Saturday, June 18, from 11 am to 5 pm at the Abode Mountain Camp, 5 Abode Road in New Lebanon, marks this milestone with fun and ceremony.
An annual community event for all ages, the day includes an opening fire-lighting, nature stations, a barbecue and bake sale, games and races, a silent auction and a live auction. Activities include friction fire-making, slack line, archery, skulls, face painting and more. The day concludes with birthday cake and a contra dance with caller Kathryn Wedderburn and musicians.
Admission is $5 per person, children three and under free. Proceeds from the event benefit Flying Deer’s Financial Assistance program, offering more than $15,000 in scholarships every year to ensure that programs are accessible to all.
Flying Deer Nature Center is a nonprofit whose mission is to mentor children, youth, adults, and families in deep connection to nature, self, and others.
