The Corkscrew Rail Trail Association will celebrate the first anniversary of the Corkscrew Rail Trail by sponsoring a community walk along the trail on Father’s Day, Sunday June 19 from 1-3 pm. [private] The trail follows the rail bed of the abandoned Rutland Railroad. The hike will start in Stephentown at Knapp Road and is an easy flat walk through the forest. Participants can walk as long or short as they like.
The walk will be led by naturalist Nick Conrad of Cropseyville. Nick just completed six years as the president of Rensselaer Land Trust and is employed managing and delivering information about rare plants and animals for the New York Natural Heritage Program.
The Corkscrew Rail Trail has concluded a very successful first year with several hundred residents and visitors making use of the initial three miles that goes from Knapp Road in Stephentown into the most northern part of New Lebanon.
There is no charge for the event, but donations are welcome. For more information see the website at www.corkscrewrailtrail.org/[/private]
