New York State Forest Extension Forester Peter Smallidge and RPA invite the community to a Woods Walk on Thursday, June 9. The walk, which will begin at 148 Walk Road in Sand Lake, will provide participants an opportunity to examine the “Deer Vegetation Index.” This index measures the impact of deer browsing on the vegetation of understory plants. Following the walk the community is invited to join Smallidge at the Sand Lake Town Hall, where he will be discussing the three prominent limits to the ability of forests to regenerate: deer, interfering vegetation and unsustainable harvesting.
Forest Regeneration is the sixth in RPA’s monthly lecture series which began in January 2016. The Woods Walk will begin at 6 pm followed by the lecture at 7:30 pm. There is a $5 suggested donation at the door. Everyone is welcome. For more information visit the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance at www.rensselaerplateau.org.[/private]
