Lady Mountaineers Post Second Win Of The CHVL Softball Campaign

May 12, 2016 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque
Starting pitcher Amanda Despart struck out 9 and Alissa Bierwirth had three hits in Berlin’s victory over Doane Stuart this past week.  The 13 to 5 win was the second of the season for the young Berlin Squad that boasts but four seniors.  Haley Maxon and Despart each doubled and Vicky Smith helped seal the win with a sparkling shoestring catch in the field.[private]

The results were not so good a few days later as Berlin hosted Waterford for a double header.   The Lady Mountaineers jumped out to a 5 to 2 lead in the first game, but a 10 run 5th inning by the Fordians propelled them to a 24 to 6 win.  Tiffany Foley was the hitting star of the game for Berlin with a triple and two runs scored.   The nightcap was a much closer affair, but Berlin again came out on the short side of the 8-5 score.  Destiny Lavenia Watson had a pair of hits and Foley crossed the plate twice for Berlin.
The Berlin Boys’ team is still in search of their first win of the season, dropping a pair of games this past week to Waterford and Doane Stuart.  Jake Bruns and Henry Ruebel each went 1-3 at the plate for the Mountaineers, with Ruebel grabbing a stolen base as well.  Sophomore Tyler Kellar tripled, walked and scored a run for Berlin in their 16-2 loss to Doane Stuart.  Senior captain Colin Love and John Kluck each went 1 – 2 at the plate.  Each picked up a walk in the game as well.[/private]
