The half marathon and 5k run, along with a kid’s walk, were first conceived by Grafton’s Lilian Porteus and Cropseyville’s Stevie Roth back in December of last year as a way to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House and create a fun day for all involved.[private]

The event took place at the Brittonkill School complex and attracted more than 100 runners. The run left from the school and followed Tamarac Road before returning to the school. The day was also co-sponsored by the Tamarac Middle School Honor Society, who cheered on the runners and placed motivational signs along the route. Porteus said the endeavor raised over $4,000 in its initial year, and Roth said they hope to add more children’s activities next yearsuch as face painting and balloon animals. The event featured the RPI New Orleans style Brass Band. [/private]
