A group of dedicated runners gathered in the chilly morning air Saturday, April 16 to break a sweat and help out the hungry and homeless, as they ran, or walked a 5k course along the roads and trails of Grafton Lakes State Park. [private]

The event was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, with the proceeds going to the Rourke Center and St. Joseph’s House and Shelter in Troy. Grand Knight Ray Dozois said the K of C attempts to raise $15,000 annually for local charitable endeavors in Rensselaer County. This year, they are branching out to include new efforts such as the 5k run. Park Naturalist Liz Wagner said the Park was happy to host the event, and she hopes it can grow in scope and participation in coming years. [/private]
