April 7, 2016 By eastwickpress

Community Conversations in Chatham and New Lebanon

At Chatham Library April 10:

Please join us on Sunday, April 10 at 3 pm at the North Chatham Library for a lively talk and discussion about climate change!  Why is it happening?  What can we do about it?  What positive actions are gaining momentum?

[private]This discussion will be led by Jan Storm, an environmental scientist who has studied the public health risks of climate change for the NYS Dept. of Health.  Julie Kabat will assist her, and both are members of Citizens Climate Education.

The North Chatham Free Library is located at 4287 Route 203 in the hamlet of North Chatham; phone 766-3211.  All events are open to anyone of any town or hamlet, and unless otherwise noted, free.

At New Lebanon Library April 19:

The New Lebanon Conservation Advisory Council will sponsor a forum entitled Climate: What’s the Big Deal? A Community Conversation at the New Lebanon Library on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 pm.  The focus of the gathering will be to educate people about climate and the issues surrounding it. Discussion and Q&A will follow. All opinions are welcome and everyone will have a chance to speak their mind.

The forum will be led by Dr.  Jan Storm, who holds advanced degrees in environmental biology, human health risk assessment and environmental public health. The discussion will begin with an overview of the scientific evidence around  climate change and its causes. Long term global effects will be examined, as well as ideas for dealing with it, which include regulations, renewable energy sources, and market driven solutions such as a carbon fee and dividend.

For further information on this free event, please call the library at (518) 794-8844. All are welcome and the event is free. The library is located at 550 State Route 20, 1/4 mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.[/private]
