The event will start in the Dick and Shari Gibbs farm woodlot located in Wynantskill, NY. A neighbor, Larry Skinner, operates about 200 taps on the Gibbs woodlot. Larry will show how sap is efficiently collected from trees using plastic tubing. We will walk through the woodlot with a NYFOA forester who will discuss woodlot management for maple sap production. Attendees will then drive about a mile to the sap house where we will see Larry’s evaporator in operation.

The tour will start at the sugarbush (245 Hidley Road, Wynantskill, NY 12198) and then move to the Skinner evaporator system about a mile away. Larry and Cathy have over 200 taps with a tubing collection system.

Although the event is free, there is a $5 suggested donation to cover cost of coffee and snacks provided.

The New York Forest Owners Association and the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance are not-for-profit organizations which encourage sustainable woodland management.
