After a slow, somewhat sloppy, first half, the Pathers held a 21-20 lead and appeared to have their hands full on this night. But a big third quarter, where Alex Mendez scored 9 points and the Panthers outscored the Horde 19-6, gave the Panthers everything they needed to take the lead and stay there.

Remington Hickey scored 22 points, including 10 in the second quarter to keep the Horde from thinking they might win the game. Connor McCart added 14, with Mendez putting in 13.

HF 51 – Watervliet 54

Albany Academy, 1/31. In a rare Sunday afternoon game, the Panthers took the floor at 4:15 to play Watervliet on the neutral Albany Academy court. The Panthers had their work cut out for them. Going to the locker room at the halftime break, the Panthers were hanging with the Cannoneers at 31-30. This was mostly due to Connor McCart scoring 14 points to keep pace. When the Panthers came out for the third quarter to outscore ‘Vliet and take a 41-37 lead, it looked like the bus ride back up Route 7 would be a pleasant one. But it wasn’t to be when the Cannoneers, behind Ty’Jon Gilmore’s 12 points, outscored the Panthers 17-10 in the fourth to grab a three point win.

Connor McCart ended the game with 27 points with Rem Hickey chipping in 13. Only four players scored. Watervliet’s Gilmore scored 26 points.

Friday, February 5, will find the Panthers at home against Tamarac with a 7:30 start. The final regular season game will be held in Bennington at Mount Anthony Union High School against the Patriots. Game time is 7 pm according to the schedule.

As of Monday, Stillwater is still atop the standings at 11-1 in league play, 15-3 overall. Hoosick Falls (overall, 11-6) and Mechanicville are tied in second place at 10-2. Tamarac and Granville each have a 5-7 record, with Hoosic Valley (3-8), Greenwich (2-9), and Cambridge (0-11).[/private]
