Registrations are now being accepted for participants in the Polar Plunge at Grafton Lakes State Park. The Winter Fest is in its 31st year with events occurring all day, January 23, 2016. The plunge happens promptly at 1 pm with check-in beginning at noon by Long Pond beach.
[private]Participants will take turns jumping into the frigid water while the New York State Police Ice Dive team provides safety. Spectators are welcome and provide a nice wind block for the event. This year, the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park will provide a fun prize for Silliest Costume, but come in whatever “swim attire” you like.
This year for the first time, the Plunge will raise funds for the food pantry of Our Lady of the Snow Parish. Your participation will help provide food to families in need in the New Year.
This event is open to the first 50 people who pre-register. The fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt and hot drink. Heated changing areas are available nearby but bring warm clothes for before and immediately after. For more information and an application for the Polar Plunge contact: Maureen Cox, Our Lady of the Snow Parish, 281-6575.
Grafton Lakes State Park and Our Lady of the Snow Parish would like to thank the New York State Police Dive Team and the Grafton Rescue Squad for their assistance in providing for the safety of participants during this event.
The 31st Annual Winter Festival will also include horse drawn carriage rides through the wintry landscape, Newfoundland sled dog rides, kid contests, indoor exhibitors, guided outings and much more. Main events run from 10-4. The Ice Fishing Contest is open to kids and adults, with registration starting at 5:30 am. Note that while the Winter Festival will happen, snow or no snow, the Ice Fishing Contest may be delayed to February 13th due to ice conditions.
