HFCS Bowling Team Loses For First Time This Season, But Avenges The Loss

January 14, 2016 By eastwickpress

On Friday, January 8, the Hoosick Falls bowling team bowled in the Schenectady New Years Invitational Tournament at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady.  This tournament has mostly “A” schools with a few “B” schools and a few “C” schools from the Capital District participating in this tournament.[private]Hoosick Falls did very well finishing 5th out of twenty teams with a 3-game 6-person team total of 3,682.  Mohonasen finished first with a total of 3,818, followed by Columbia (2nd) 3,769, Shaker (3rd) 3,749, and Schalmont (4th) 3,702.  Hoosick Falls had a great team effort with some really good scores:  A.J. Hurlburt 235-653, Jon Bossoni 223-628, Jennifer Sargood 225-627, Kyla Day 213-616, Josh McCart 214-583, and Tyler Lindsey 201-575.

Coach Lang said, “The entire team bowled great today!  I hope that we can bowl this well when we return to Boulevard Bowl for Sectionals in February.”

The Hoosick Falls bowling team lost its first match of the season in a non-league match against Schuylerville by the score of 3-1 bowled at Olde Saratoga Lanes in Schuylerville.  Schuylerville had match total pins of 3,261 to Hoosick Falls match total pins of 3,252.  Hoosick Falls now has a league record of 9-0 and an overall record of 9-1.  Top bowler for Schuylerville was Brady Griffin with a 246-667.  Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were:  A.J. Hurlburt 247-657, Josh McCart 199-536, Jennifer Sargood 203-529, Chris Snyder 183-523, Kyla Day 190-507, and Jon Bossoni 183-500.  J.V. scores were Dan Suite with a 181-458 and Meghan Backes with a 172-458.

Coach Lang said, “We got off to a bad start on tricky lane conditions and lost the first game by 98 pins.  We bowled better in the second game, trying to make the proper adjustments, but still lost by 63 pins.  In the third game we bowled much better and won by 152 pins but still lost the match total pin count by only 9 pins.  A.J. had a great day on very oily lane conditions and kept us alive in the match.  I was very proud how the team didn’t get down on themselves and came back and won the third game and almost the point for match total.  They never gave up and kept fighting till the end of the match!  This was a good learning experience for the team and I feel it will benefit the team in the coming weeks as we finish our regular match schedule and get into league roll offs and tournament play.”

The Hoosick Falls bowling team avenged its loss last week against Schuylerville on their lanes by beating them by the same 3-1 score at the Barbecue Lanes.  Hoosick Falls now has a league record of 9-0 and an overall record of 10-1.  Hoosick Falls had a match total pin count of 3,395 to Schuylerville’s match total pin count of 3,216.  Top bowler for Schuylerville was Brady Griffin with a nice 263-657.  Top Varsity bowlers for Hoosick Falls were:  Tyler Lindsey 232-593, Jennifer Sargood 217-592, Kyla Day 215-587, A.J. Hurlburt 203-577, Josh McCart 234-532, and Jon Bossoni 199-514.  We had some good J.V. and Exhibition scores:  Chris Snyder 249-567, Ben Kapron 194-543, Erin McCart 184-534, Meghan Backes 205-529, Dan Suite 191, and Lilli Williams 191.

Coach Lang said, “We had a good come from behind win after losing the first game by 82 pins.  The team won the second game by 134 pins and the third game by 127 pins to win the match by a 3-1 score.  The team did a great job not getting down after losing the first game by rolling some nice games in the second and third games to secure the win.   This was another good team effort where everyone on Varsity contributed to the win.”[/private]
