Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced the results of this year’s Coats for Kids program that distributed 562 new coats to children throughout the County. The annual program is administered by the Department for Youth and relies upon a summertime golf outing supported by local businesses to raise the funds to purchase the new coats. [private]
The County distributes the coats with the assistance of local organizations to help ensure those children in need of a coat get one while preventing overlap or duplication.
“While the typical winter weather has yet to take hold this program helps ensure that every child in need of a winter coat has one. I want to thank all of the local businesses who continually support this program as well as organizations who partner with us on this program and work day in and day out to support the children in our communities,” said Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino.
Since the program’s inception in 2001 over 5,000 coats have been distributed. Once again this year the coats were purchased at a discounted price through Lodges and wrapped by county employees volunteering their time and materials.[/private]
