Volunteers Needed To Help Adults And Children In Our Area

October 1, 2015 By eastwickpress

Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC) welcomes all kinds of volunteers, from tutors to administrative helpers and event planners. As a volunteer you can develop new skills, make friends, and see how your efforts make a difference in your community. [private]Would you like to help someone to read, write, or speak and understand English? We can train you.  A Tutor Training Workshop will begin on November 2 at Rensselaer Public Library. To find out more about tutoring and other ways to help, join us for a one-hour Volunteer Opportunities Information Session at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 5 at Rensselaer Public Library, 676 East Street, Rensselaer. Call 274-8526 to reserve a space.

LVORC needs tutors to be paired with adult learners, as well as reading mentors for Everybody Wins! Power Lunch, a program where adults serve as positive reading role models for elementary school kids in Troy, Cohoes, Albany and East Greenbush. LVORC is also seeking math tutors, computer tutors, and tutors to help with a financial literacy program at the YWCA. Special events volunteers are needed to help raise much-needed funds which allow LVORC to provide all programs and services free of charge.

Since 1968, LVORC has provided Basic Literacy, English as a Second Language, and Family Literacy programs to give people the skills they need to become employed, help their children succeed in school, and participate in every aspect of American life.  For more information, visit www.lvorc.org.[/private]
