Yo La Tengo Kicks Off World Tour At The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

September 3, 2015 By eastwickpress

Fresh off celebrating their 30th anniversary, Yo La Tengo will release Stuff Like That There on August 28 via Matador Records and will kick off their world tour in Troy at the Music Hall at 8 pm on Wednesday, September 23.

According to National Public Radio (NPR), Yo La Tengo is “among the most consistently rewarding bands of our time.”

The trio of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew now return as a quartet, reuniting with former member Dave Schramm on electric guitar as they revisit the original concept of their beloved Fakebook (a mix of cover songs, “covers” of Yo La Tengo songs, and brand new originals) on its 25th anniversary. This unprecedented live set-up — Ira on acoustic guitar, Georgia up-front on a small kit, and James on upright bass — marks the first occasion of this particular Yo La Tengo incarnation touring together (and since it took them 31 years to get around to doing so, could very well also be the last).

Yo La Tengo is one of the most beloved and respected bands in America. For nearly thirty years, Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew have enjoyed success entirely on their own terms – playing the world’s best concert halls, museums, and dives, dominating critics’ lists, doing a Simpsons theme, playing the Velvet Underground in “I Shot Andy Warhol,” sharing stages with some of the most important musicians of our time, and even creating a holiday tradition onto themselves with their yearly series of Hanukkah shows at Hoboken, New Jersey’s legendary club Maxwells, from which they’ve donated hundreds of thousands to charity.

The band’s website is at http://yolatengo.com/

Single tickets are on sale now via phone at 518-273-0038, in person, or online at www.troymusichall.org.  Tickets are available at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Box Office, 30 Second Street, Troy, Monday through Friday 10 am to 5 pm.  ($15 Test Drive tickets are available to people who have not purchased tickets to the Hall before. For information about eligibility, availability, and location, please contact the Box Office.) More information on the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and upcoming programs is available on the website at www.troymusichall.org.

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall has hosted performances by legions of world-renowned artists, from legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Isaac Stern, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Vladimir Horowitz, to the best on today’s contemporary music scene, including Joshua Bell, Andrew Bird, Steve Martin, Lyle Lovett, and John Prine and many others.[/private]
