Friday, January 1, 1836: Towards night I went down to Mr. Hazard Morey’s and spent the evening and took supper. My wife went in the afternoon with the cutter and sister widow Betsey Wylie with her. Mr. Noah Harrison and wife and Old Widow Booge and others were all there to a New Year’s Supper. Tonight Mr. Peter Surdam stayed with us with a horse, he came after his goods to carry to Troy.
Monday January 11: I took the cutter and carried my children to school and today I chopped and drew two loads of wood from my swamp and this evening I picked up apples into bags for market. On this morning Peter Belcher had a child die, about three months old.
Friday, January 22: I called to Mr. Amos Chapman and left the leather and bells for him to string them and sew the buckles on, and left the ferriton for sister Betsy to make me tassels for my bedstall, and on the way home I called up to Elder Jones by the request of Mr. Samuel Beers to come to my house to marry said Beers to Sister Eleanor next Thursday in the afternoon.
On this morning I bargained with John Sackett for my house near Mr. Danford’s. Said Sackett is to have the house and garden to the rock one year from next April and move in when he pleases. To pay the rent he is to work a month in haying to begin when I call for him and work every other week until he works his rent, which is 26 dol, and I do agree to find Lime and sand, and said Sackett agrees to mix it and find a mason to plaster the house where it needed, and furthermore, said Sackett agrees to not keep no animals nor fowls.
Monday: A snow storm, I only tended to my chores and chopped wood to burn.
Tuesday: I took my cutter and fetched the widow Betsy Wylie to make Sister Eleanor wedding cake and at night I carried her home again. but little path for the snow quite deep.
Thursday: today sister Eleanor was married to Mr. Samuel Beers for his second wife by elder Jones, about 3 o’clock. Brother Sylvester and family and Aseneth Newton and son and the widow Wylie and family attended. Brother Sylvester and family stayed all night.
Friday: I took the double sleigh and brother Sylvester and his wife went with me and my wife home with our new brother Beers and took dinner and we returned home this evening. Brother Beers lives to the west part of the town about seven miles.
Saturday, January 30: I chopped and drew a load of wood from the swamp.
