The Rensselaer County Legislature selected Vice Chair of the Legislature Stan Brownell to serve as Chair of the 19-member body during the regular monthly meeting on September 8.
[private]Brownell pledged to continue the legislative mission of protecting taxpayers and needed services, and ensuring access for residents to county government and services provided by the county. The Legislature has also provided important support for job creation projects, including the expansion of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in East Greenbush, creating nearly 300 new jobs.
The county has been able to stay under the state tax cap, and has earned solid financial reviews and audits, including an upgrade in the county’s bond rating.
“We have important work ahead, and I look forward to having the Rensselaer County Legislature continue to make a difference for residents and taxpayers, along with helping foster a better future for our county,” said Brownell.
“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the Rensselaer County Legislature, and lead my colleagues as we deal with the important issues of the coming months. This body does important work and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead,” added Brownell.
Brownell was elected by a unanimous margin.
“The Legislature has played an important role in protecting taxpayers and supporting job creation. We have other opportunities to move the county forward and Stan is the right choice to lead the Legislature,” said Vice Chair of the Legislature for Finance Phil Danaher.
“Stan has a good grasp of the issues and the experience to lead the Legislature as we move forward. I look forward to working with him on issues of importance, including agricultural and infrastructure issues, in the coming months,” said Majority Leader Ken Herrington.
A lifelong resident of Hoosick, Brownell was first elected in 1997. He was elected as Vice Chairman in 2009 and re-elected as Vice Chairman in 2013. He has served on various committees, including the Rules Committee, Planning and Public Works Committee, Aging Committee and others.
He and his wife Robin reside in Hoosick Falls.
Brownell was selected to replace Martin Reid, who stepped down as Chairman last month following nearly six years of service.[/private]
