Wood Memorial Road Race’s Thirtieth Year Proceeds Earmarked For Town Of Hoosick Community Pool

May 21, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks

The thirtieth running of the Wood Memorial Road Race was held on Saturday, May 16. It was good weather for running, not too warm, with overcast skies. A full complement of Lions Club members and Fire Department volunteers positioned throughout the course, and members of the Hoosick Falls Police Department and the Hoosick Rescue Squad were present. The field of runners, about 35, was somewhat smaller than in previous years.

Trophies are presented to the overall winner and to the first finisher from the Town of Hoosick. This year there were two-fisted trophy winners on both the men’s and women’s sides, as the first place finishers were both from the Town of Hoosick.

The Town of Hoosick Lions Club is part of the largest service membership organization in the world with 1.4 million members world-wide. Started by Melvin Jones and given a mission by Helen Keller, the Lions Clubs around the world work for sight conservation. The local club provides such community services as eyeglasses for those in need, support to the HACA Food Pantry, for the Northeast Association for the Blind, and for the Lions Eye Institute in Albany. This year’s Road Race proceeds are earmarked for the Town of Hoosick Community Pool.

The Lions Club offers thanks to the Village of Hoosick Falls Highway Department and Police Department, the Hoosick Falls Fire Department, North Hoosick Fire Department, the West Hoosick Fire Department and the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad for their help in securing a smooth and safe day for all.
